Lithuanian Rural Network Project "Little Farmers"
Lithuanian Rural Network Project "Little Farmers" is a national educational project intended for schoolchildren in grades 2–6 living in districts or rural areas, which aims to introduce children to the world of modern, innovative and sustainable agriculture.
Project period
Start: February 2026 End: June 2026
The project is based on the principle "I experienced it myself - I understood it myself", therefore, during the project, great attention will be paid to real participation: sowing, observation, knowledge and creation. It is not enough to just tell about the farm - it is necessary to let it be felt, experienced, created, so that children discover not only nature, but also themselves in it.
This is a playful and engaging project that:
✔️ Introduces children to modern agriculture.
✔️ Gives children the opportunity to experience, create, learn.
✔️ Develops awareness of environmental protection, technology, sustainability.
✔️ Changes the attitude towards modern farming.
The goal of the project: to encourage students to get acquainted with modern agriculture, to understand its value, interest, technological progress in agriculture and to create a positive emotional connection, which may lead to their involvement in the agricultural sector in the future.
Why is it worth participating in the project?
Agriculture is often understood only through the prism of physical labor, and advanced technologies, sustainable farming methods or creative activities in this area are rarely discussed. There is a lack of engaging, relevant activities for children that would reveal that agriculture can be not only interesting and modern, but also have many meaningful opportunities for the future.
Participation in the project provides students with the opportunity to:
- Learn about modern agriculture through experience, not just from a textbook – observe, touch, explore, grow and create.
- Learn the basics of sustainability through real actions: from growing plants to conserving natural resources.
- Acquire a sense of responsibility, develop curiosity and creativity by caring for your own grown plant or participating in a farm trip.
- Discover your place in nature and understand its importance, forming an emotional connection with the environment, animals, and plants.
- Understand that agriculture is an advanced, innovative and creative field that requires knowledgeable, motivated and responsible people.
Participation in the project is also useful for educators:
- Interdisciplinary competencies are deepened – education combines natural sciences, technologies, environmental protection, and creativity.
- The class is provided with live practice and motivation, which helps students better understand theoretical material.
- Encourages teamwork in the classroom and develops social skills.
